So who is Kamala Harris?

Libra 2024

As the run up to the US elections reaches fever pitch, perhaps it’s time to take a look at the candidate going head-to-head with Trump. I’ve spent more than enough time on him! He’s such a good example for astrology, it’s hard to ignore him. But who is Kamala Harris according to astrology? And does she have a chance in the presidential race?

Kamala has the Sun in Libra, so it is a good time to talk about her. Libra, the peace-maker, the connector, the mediator. But is that all she is? Or is she any of those things, as her sun sign would imply? Let’s take a look at her chart. We have a birth time for her too, so that gives a bit more information.

Kamala’s calling

If you know my work, you’ll know that I find the Sun a really important factor for defining your calling. Usually I would look at your vocation together with you, so I have a chance to see how you are using your qualities. It’s unlikely I will have a conversation with Kamala about her calling:), so what follows is a description of her potential, if she can make the most of the energy with which she was born.

Kamala the Libra

So yes, Kamala is at heart a Libra – someone who wants to create balance and bring people together. With the Sun in the fifth house, she wants to have fun doing it too. This gives her the Leo-like flavour of being a leader. She also has Mars in Leo which I mentioned in an earlier post – ‘When Leo turns bad’.Β  So she is happy on stage and being the centre of attention. And she loves to laugh.

Competition is something she thrives upon. She likes to win and be first – something she has achieved many times, as she keeps repeating!

If this placement works well she can be a generous leader – one who wants to encourage others to grow. As a Libra she has a focus on others. However this must be balanced by her Leo qualities of wanting to be the most important person in the room, and someone who expects her way of doing things to be followed. This could create a well-rounded personality, but like all aspects in a horoscope, it depends on how consciously Kamala can use these attributes for a positive outcome.

Kamala is a communicator

With Gemini rising and Mercury next to the Sun, getting her ideas out is crucial for her. She needs to express her thoughts. The combination of this part of her character and the Libra part, suggests she has the ability to be a good listener. Communicative Libras like good dialogue, and they have a quick mind. This Gemini energy is sometimes thought of as light and changeable, however Kamala also has Saturn picking up her Sun.

The Saturnian Kamala

Saturn grounds her and makes her a responsible and practical person. She likes rules, so her previous career as Attorney General of California suited her well. Saturnian people like bringing others to justice. They can have a natural authority, however this can also show up as being very tough and strict. She expects results and reportedly asks a lot of her staff. This aspect also suggests, despite her laugh, that she will be very goal-oriented and has the staying power to achieve her goals.

What are Kamala’s talents

Having Venus in Virgo suggests that Kamala has a love of detail. This could lend an element of micro-management, however I think she has enough fire that wants action to get trapped there. She is probably too impatient to be worrying about every little thing and wants to get on with the job at hand. Venus touches four planets, giving her a wide range of skills; she can add Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to her resumΓ©. Strategy, the big-picture and politics for Jupiter, out-of-the-box thinking and independence for Uranus, compassion and vision for Neptune, and lastly passion and power with leadership qualities for Pluto. Quite a list.

But does she fit the US’s leader profile?

Back in 2020, I did a rather long analysis of past presidents. My reason for this was to attempt to understand astrological patterns, to ascertain whether Trump or Biden had a better chance of a win in 2020. The link is below for this post too – I now need to add Biden to the list of Scorpios. There are many different ways that astrologers look at elections. Some use eclipses, others use what are known as ingresses. Some look at the candidate’s charts and what is being triggered for them. Others do various combinations of techniques.

I like to keep it simple. However, my background belief is anything but that. I think that just as people do, countries have a calling and can attract certain people to them. Inherent in the starting of a country (or a company) is a purpose, a vision and a goal. It needs a certain type of leadership to keep the promise of that first seed moment. And, just like people, to develop the potential of what is given at birth.

The US seed moment

There are heated discussions in the astrological community as to which is the ‘correct’ horoscope for the US. I think many charts have their moments, so to speak. Many astrologers, including me, use what is known as the Sibly chart. We know from history that this is not a real timed chart. However, the fact the July 4th is celebrated and that many astrologers over time have put energy into this chart, gives it credence for me. It’s like a ritual, and it has become something that works as a morphic field. I am happy to use it as I think it responds well to events today.

My way of looking at presidential candidates is similar to doing relationship charts. Does the person have a match with the country? In this case in terms of being a leader. So for me, the candidate has to have some matches with the Sun and its aspects in the US chart.

US leadership

The US is a Cancer, so having this energy helps. Kamala has no planets in the sign of Cancer, but by being born at full moon, she has the Sun being ‘picked up’ by the Moon, giving her some Cancerian qualities. The US would also appreciate a leader with Saturn qualities which she does have. And also Jupiter, which Kamala has in terms of talent and approach, which could help a bit. The last one that describes a fitting leader for the US is Ceres. Kamala doesn’t have this either, but she does support women’s rights which is a very Ceres topic, as is democracy itself. She can talk the talk – but can she walk the walk?

On the other hand – Trump

Trump has only Jupiter picking up his Sun, however he has three planets in Cancer. I think he is a better match here. But neither of them has a very strong match to the US chart. It’s a two-party choice in the US. I’m not sure why a better candidate hasn’t shown up. The phrase ‘best of a bad lot’ comes to mind! Speaking astrologically of course.

Matches to the US chart

As I mentioned in my 2020 post, Libra (Harris) scores four in terms of presidents who won elections and Gemini (Trump) just three. The highest are Aquarius – eleven and Pisces – eight. People who have these two signs seem to be favoured. I think this is because the Moon in the US chart, which represents ‘the people’, is in Aquarius, and Ceres, who represents the form of government, is in Pisces.

The Moon and Ceres in the US chart

The Moon suggests what the people need, and Trump has Ceres in Aquarius. His form of rebelliousness and inconsistency in government, in some way matches the needs of the people. Harris has only Saturn in Aquarius. Neither of them has any planets in Pisces, however Kamala has a Pisces mission with the top of her chart being in this sign. So there is a match there. It comes down to whether voters want someone who has a compassionate mission doing it with rules and laws, or the freedom that Trump offers – mainly for business. Here too, it’s swings and roundabouts.

Voting and inauguration

There are two other charts that astrologers tend to study, and one is for election day. I tend to use the close of all polls, as voting extends over quite a long period. I also think something has been decided at this point.

End of polling

close of polls US 2024

Close of the polls for Washington, DC. The last polls close elsewhere but the capital is used for this.

This is quite a strange chart, as the Moon, representing how the people are feeling, has no aspects, which is rare. It feels like voters are totally disengaged from the whole process. Both the Moon and Ceres are together in Capricorn in the 5th house which I would take to mean they would like a responsible leader and a responsible form of government. The Moon is also close to Kamala’s Moon.

Harris or Trump?

So the last voting day would favour Harris. However Gemini is at the top of the chart, with Uranus close by, even though it’s in a different sign. And Jupiter is highlighting Trump’s Node, a point that has to do with karma. I think you could read this both ways. He gets what he deserves? But is that a huge loss or is it his fate to be President again? I think this favours Trump as a leader. Although I would probably give the edge to Harris here as, after all, it’s the people (Moon) who are choosing.

The inauguration chart

us inauguration

Inauguration January 20, 2025 Washington, DC

So can the inauguration chart tell us anything? This is a very powerful moment. But who is destined to be in the spotlight on the day? Pluto is by then firmly in Aquarius for the coming twenty years. A new dawn for the world and especially for the US leadership.

One for Trump?

It shows a huge transformation and, with the Sun touching Uranus, something shocking and new. This has the potential for innovative and different leadership. But I fear that won’t be the result. I think whoever gets in, it will mean even more control using technology. Uranus is also on the ‘mission point’ of Trump.Β  This aspect favours Trump, as he is very Uranian and in his case disruptive. However, it could mean a shock and a break in where he is heading.

Ceres for Trump

It seems Ceres has chosen Trump as the protector of the underdog. On inauguration day she is very near his own Ceres. The Moon too (the people), on the day, is right on Trump’s Jupiter, the people are in line with his philosophy and strategy, especially when is comes to international affairs.

However, he does have some contacts that would mean a huge blow to his wishes. The blow to his self esteem could make him very angry, especially after the inauguration.

But …Kamala

Uranus can also mean new and different. A woman of colour as president would certainly be that and, unlike Trump, she has never been the president.

Inauguration day gives Harris a really powerful voice, since her Mercury is awakened by the Sun and Pluto being together. Ceres is not really favouring her desire for radical change, however the Moon in Libra on the day suggests that people want the peace they think she can bring.

If she wins she might need to adjust her need for a fixed strategy, and be more flexible in the way she does politics. (In the coming period Uranus-Mars aspects wake up her Jupiter.)

The jury is out

I think that Harris has a slight edge looking at these charts, however I think the whole system of getting candidates and voting really shows that democracy is broken. A topic I have touched on earlier.

Whatever the outcome, I wish the US well. It is in for challenging times, whoever wins.
